I made a post on Instagram & Facebook yesterday that caused a bit of controversy.
If you’ve read my blog lately, you will know that I’ve been candid about putting peas on my incision for some relief. I’ve been calling it “pea pants”…anyway, yesterday while Katie was cooking chili, I thought it’d be funny to make a little photo op with the peas.
I did not expect the backlash!
What was intended to be a lighthearted joke about re-using the thawed and refrozen peas quickly turned into a scandal the likes of which my family has never endured. So let me set the record straight.
We do not, nor have we ever, put peas in chili. Ever. Katie would never. I wouldn’t either. It was a silly joke, nothing more.
But I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t at least a little curious now.
Are peas a bean or a legume? Either way I am tempted to entertain the idea of peas in chili at least once. You never know - it could change the chili game for all eternity.
After all, the cinncinatians made chili with no beans. While I denounce this no-bean-behavior, I feel as though our world has reached a point with inclusivity and diversity that we could at least imagine a world where peas can thrive alongside their beany friends without judgement.
I knew it was a joke some people are nuts 🥜 ha ha
